About the Project

The project was proposed in 2024 and was funded for 2025. The wider research team was initially based at academyEX, AUT and the University of Canterbury. One of the lead researchers has since moved to EPIT. All ethics approval has been processed via the academyEX ethics panel.

Project Aims

The aims of this project are to bridge the gap in AI literacy among diverse learner populations in Aotearoa New Zealand by co-creating and implementing a comprehensive AI literacy resource that can be practically applied to support learners.

With educators requiring substantial support in integrating AI into their practice, this area presents significant opportunities for educational innovation.

The objectives of the project are to:

Develop a comprehensive AI literacy resource to promote equitable access to learning through AI tools.

Empower students and staff in tertiary organisations to thoughtfully and effectively apply AI in ways that support and enhance learning for all.

Prioritise enhancing AI literacy and competency across diverse populations in New Zealand tertiary education.

Support the practical application of AI literacy through assessments designed to enhance learner self-efficacy and academic performance.
